We hit the road a couple of minutes before 7.00am on Friday, got some ice on the way out and we&#8217;re off -yay!<\/p>\n<p>We have an uneventful run out to Southern Cross, we get there just on midday were we stop to top up the tank, our rotopak fuel cels and pop some water into our solar showers ready to leave the black top. Last night we also saw the new moon rise but without the tripod the photos were blurred.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway we had breaky, packed up and hit the track again making our way through the Helena Aurora ranges. The tracks are pretty good condition, nothing too bad except for the patches of bad corrugations and each set of corrugations is different and finding the right speed for each set can be a challenge. Some were so bad that you could hear the side window glass shaking in the frame. Lake Deborah is actually used by WA Salt Supply who mine the lake for salt for your fish and chips and for use in pool salt. Another day finished off with a lovely sunset then an evening sky with some falling stars. We settle down for the night. Around 1.00am is got a little nippy so we threw on another blanket and settle back to sleep.<\/p>\n<!--nextpage-->\n<p>Another day and another spectacular sunrise. Honestly the sunrises and sunsets are 1000 times better out here, each one different, it&#8217;s hard to pick the best one.<br \/>\nWell, we certainly came across more travellers than we expected out here and today was no different. After packing up we headed out to Mt Elivre Homestead to have squizz.<br \/>\nThere a heaps of tracks out here heading off every which way its easy to see how a person could get lost. We have our chosen path to Mt Elvire and once again the tracks change from sandy, rocky, corrugated, bulldust and creek beds. We hopped out for a look and some photos. The main homestead is smaller than i thought it would be. It still has the original wood stove in the kitchen. Camping is allowed &#8211; you need to pay DEC at Kalgoorlie before coming out. There is a rain water tank and a pit toilet. As always in the outback the water should be used sparingly. The last recorded rain was in march 2014 when there was 22mm in the gauge. We stop along the way to change drivers and notice we&#8217;ve sprung a leak &#8211; the front passenger tyre is down. We pump it up and continue on trying to think we we may punctured it and our calculations suggest back at Mt Elvire. It&#8217;s interesting though, on the drive home, we were doing 100km and we got passed by every truck and road train out there. Aren&#8217;t they limited to 100Kms? you wouldn&#8217;t think so.
