Cape Arid – Mt. Ragged and Surrounds

Day 5 - 6 Mt Ragged

Tuesday and Wednesday, 23rd-24th December 2014

We had some rain last night but we?re dry and so too is our camp / chairs and table under our trusty Sunseeker awning. When hubby first got up on Tue he encountered a roo jumping down the track on the way to the toilet ? doh! No camera. We take it easy over the next couple of days enjoying the symphony of birds that surround our camp and spend many hours trying to get photos of them.

Even though it is now summer there is still a late display of wildflowers around Mt Ragged. Gee, WA really earns it’s title of the Wildflower State

We?ve also seen some interesting insect life and took pleasure in watching wasps dig out holes in the ground then close themselves in, pop out again some time later and repeat the process. There are what we think are yellow striped wasps and black wasps; it is amazing – they all seem to know whose hole is whos.

We?ve seen a colorful big cockroach which we excitedly think could be a new species so hubby gets some photos. The roach is very obliging seeming to actually pose for the shots.

On Tuesday evening we were treated to a beautiful sunset, sunsets are so much better out in the bush 🙂

Each morning we wake up to see Mt Ragged outside our bedroom window. We are enjoying mild days of 21c ? 24c with rain every night. When the wind blows though, it?s quite cool. Late on Wed evening another couple arrive and set up camp; like us they are traveling solo and are quiet campers.

Footnote: we researched the cockroach when we got back and find it?s not rare but quite common and is a painted cockroach.
