Fitting the HPD Catch Can to the Mitsubishi Pajero

Installing the HPD Catch Can: Part One

First off its probable best to check all the parts have been supplied correctly.

Begin by removing the engine cover from the Pajero.

Remove the upper Right Bolt from the window washer motor.

With the bolt that has been removed we will be keeping the collar but replacing the M6 bolt with a longer one. The replacement bolt should be a M6x30 8.8 High Tensile Bolt this is supplied with the OCC-B-MP-NX kit so if you don’t have the kit or are changing the HPD catch can position to the firewall then you will need to get this bolt. With a drift or similar knock the bolt out of the collar. Then drive the collar onto the replacement bolt for the wiper washer motor. Note that the collar has indentations which can damage the bolts threads, so caution is advised . I also opted to reuse the washer from the OE bolt although any same size washer could be used.

The bolt with the collar will now not fit though the the Pajero Firewall bracket (OCC-MB-MP2), so the hole on the left side of the bracket will needs to be slightly enlarged. This is what I did but now with hind sight I should have put the bolt through the firewall bracket the drove the collar onto the bolt or have used a longer collar to take into account the thickness of the HPD firewall bracket.

Next remove the Earthing Cable Bolt. This bolt which is a M8 will also need to be replaced with a longer bolt. If you have the HPD OCC-B-MP-NX kit then this bolt will have been supplied, otherwise a M8x25 8.8 High Tensile Bolt is required. Also a M8 flat washer and M8 spring washer will be needed.

Mount the OCC-MB-MP2 Bracket to the firewall. Screw the both the upper and lower hose tail into the HPD catch can. Then insert the HPD Catch Can into the OCC-MB-MP3 90 degree bracket. Position the catch can with the lower inlet valve point towards the front of the Pajero. For me this was pointed off centre towards the passenger side of the Pajero. Then screw in the 4 screws. Next bolt the HPD catch can assembly to the firewall bracket.
The OCC-MB-MP2 bracket fits to the firewall at an angle. Position the HPD catch can so it is level then tighten up the bolts that holds the OCC-MB-MP2 Firewall Bracket to the OCC-MB-MP3 90 degree bracket. Check that the HPD catch can does not interfere with any other part of the engine and that the hoses are also clear of obstructions or hot engine parts. The catch can did initially hit on some what some air con pipe but with a bit of adjustment enough clearance was created around the HPD catch can.
